Address to the UN

Representatives of the governments of the world, good morning to all of you. First of all, I would like to invite you, very respectfully, to those who have not read this book, to read it.

Noam Chomsky, one of the most prestigious American and world intellectuals, Noam Chomsky, and this is one of his most recent books, ‘Hegemony or Survival: The Imperialist Strategy of the United States.’ ” [Holds up book, waves it in front of General Assembly.] “It’s an excellent book to help us understand what has been happening in the world throughout the 20th century, and what’s happening now, and the greatest threat looming over our planet.

Bring Noam Chomsky to UNC

Over at OrangePolitics, our local politics blog in Chapel Hill the home of the Univesity of North Carolina, recent graduate Tom Jensen wondered How to bring more prominent liberals to UNC. This was in response to John Ashcrofts visit to UNC’s Memorial Hall.

I suggest that “prominent liberal” should be Noam Chomsky. The UNC community needs to hear what he has to say. So UNC student groups interested in bringing Mr. Chomsky to campus let me know how I can help you. I don’t have a bunch of money but I’ve lots of other skills. 🙂

Is the US becoming a Theocracy? No Doubt!

Not sure why I’m getting all interested in Clinton letting loose with a bit of rant on TV but… it brings up other fundamental issues.

Crooks and Liars post Authoritarianism: Bloggers sounding the warning quotes and links Dave Johnson at The Huffington Post (aka HuffPo) called Authoritarianism and Theocracy — Bloggers Are Sounding A Warning.

Basically many bloggers believe that the neocon Republicans in control of American are pushing American towards a Authoritarian/Theocracy. People just won’t believe us because its a rather horrible concept. Unfortunately it’s utter denial to ignore the Republicans actions.

Folks are wondering why Democrats are taking so long to call out this bull. I’ll tell you why. It takes a lot of money to get elected. Nationally elected Democrats are funded by the same corporations as Republicans. Both parties have strong ties to Christian Churches of one kind or another. Democrats and Republicans are more alike than people want to admit. These American political parties are joined at the hip. Their strong conflicts of interest are destroying have destroyed their ability to govern justly.

So when you’re in a symbiotic relationship with your life partner you can’t just cut your ties willy nilly. Essentially Democrats making accusations of Authoritarian type actions by the Republicans is opening up a big can of worms. Its also putting a big life size mirror in front of the whole DNC and staring hard. Let the mirror gazing begin! What has our political system become?

Bill Clinton sets example for Dems

I finally watched the much talked about Clinton interview on Fox. Well I didn’t watch Fox TV I caught it on CrooksandLiars.com. [Fox interview here. MOV] Here is what I got out of it.

Bill Clinton has set an important example for all Democrats running for office now. His honesty inspires us to build trust. Tell the truth. All the time.

Dems get out there and raise your voice. Interrupt people. Jump up and down. Yell. But have a message. We’re mad as hell about the condition of the world and not going to take it any more!

I don’t mean all the time. But when its appropriate. Heck people interested in politics talk frankly with each other like Bill Clinton did. There is nothing strange about his actions. He has been attacked over and over. He just told Fox what many Americans have been saying for years. Good Job Mr. Clinton!

I really believe that Democrats must be fiercely honest to get elected and repair our country. Oh and don’t forget to watch John Stewart’s discussion of the facts. I mean Clinton’s interview wasn’t all “combative”. [Fun Daily Show MOV]

Note: After sleeping on this post I needed to add one thing. I’m a pacifist. I’m against killing of any kind. This whole argument between Democrats and Republicans about who is doing a better job capturing and killing Osama bin Laden is insane. Its nothing but misplaced macho bullshit. I think our country can have a military to defend itself. But we don’t need aggressive men running the USA who attack and occupy other countries.

This is the major wedge between me and my FULL support of Democrats running for National office. (Local office is another story.) Its why I am NOT a registered Democrat, even though I’ve never voted for a Republican. Some how there is a balance between the radical idea that peace is possible through pacifism and electoral politics. Kucinich was right, we need a US Department of Peace.

Me and My Katamari on the PSP

So a few months ago I bought a Play Station Portable, aka PSP, video game. Messed around with the home brew apps a bit. (unofficial software for the PSP) Got busy. Put PSP down for a while. Just yesterday I got a new game and as soon as I’m done moving my entire house I hope to become a bit obsessed with it. Its called Me and My Katamari. Its based on the popular Japanese Sony Play Station game called Katamari Damacy. (Warning: flash site with loud music at beginning) Boku no Watashi no Katamari Damacy in Japanese.

The game has a rather abstract concept. When you play the game you are a little prince cartoon character with a very poetic King that sends you on mission to roll stuff up. By this I mean everything. You just start off with a Katamari ball and push it towards stuff. When you hit it it sticks to the Katamari and gets bigger. The music is odd and fun. Absolutely addictive and you don’t kill stuff. A rare artful video game.

For an interesting demonstration of how this MIGHT look in real life check out this commercial that stole the idea. (the game doesn’t look like this) But it’d be cool if it did. [thanks to the fiend that brought Katamari Damacy game to the beach last year.)

Lossless MP3 editing with Fission

Lee Sherman at createdigitalmusic.com tells us about a new Rogue Amoeba product called Fission. Its a simple audio editor for the Mac. So bare bones in fact it doesn’t even use VST and AU plug-ins. Nor does it do multiple tracks. (audio geeks will understand)

But the really BIG deal with this software is lossless editing of MP3s. Rogue Amoeba claims its the only Mac audio editor that can do this. In the past you could only edit lossless audio file formats like AIFF or WAV over and over again without audible degradation. A real drag if you just want to chop up a mp3 quickly, create fades in and out, or create chapter segments. Lots of those new digital recorders only record to mp3. Now you can deal with the files in mp3 format and share them fast. Plus this software is only $29.95. Nice.
